Brags, Vents, & Dreams

Soooo...I have a Millionaire Moms Club and we like to get together on weekly teleconferences if possible to discuss B, V, D's. (Brags, Vents & Dreams) The session today was extremely valuable because it was a year end review and 2009 strategy session. Its like they say..."If you dont know where youve been....you wont know where youre heading"

BRAGS

  • Had some great acting opportunities working on Madea Goes to Jail, House of Payne, Preachers Kid, Your Presents Required and filming a TitleMax commercial

  • Found an opportunity that actually paid for my first international flight to France..and it just happened to be on a G5!

  • Finally completed my vision board and then promptly proceeded to manifest many things on the board (including acting gigs, more money, free travel, harmonic relationships and business opportunities
  • Gained a new spiritual enlightenment...became awakened.

  • In September, completely ended a 15 year love affair with smoking and gave it up cold turkey :) Also realized the negative effects, patterns and choices alcohol has contributed to in my life over the years. Decided to be grown and sexy and give up hard liquor and binge drinking in lieu of wine only.

  • Worked hard on my marriage. We are the strongest and happiest we have been in 10 yrs.

  • Ended December by landing a new lucrative sales gig with a great biotech company!

VENTS

  • Closed down our 3 stores

  • Accumulated much more debt than I should have

  • Stock portfolio and 401K depress me to even look at

  • Old acquaintances continued negative habits and I had to stop associating with people I considered to be like family

  • Too many friends going through divorce or having constant drama in their marriages and relationships

  • My 16 year old little sister is pregnant

DREAMS

  • I will complete my screenplay (Its almost done! I knocked out like 80 pages in France)

  • I will finish the two books I have been writing on

  • I will figure out how I can best serve my community and be an avid leader and contributor of positive change

  • I will get my daughters a scholarship to enroll in private school

  • My hubby will have a prosperous year of booked shows, album sales, and huuuuuuge checks!

  • I will be able to purchase a real estate investment in Nicaragua, Ecuador, Honduras or Panama.

  • I will enroll in private acting coaching and be accepted to an exclusive agency

Be always at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let each new year find you a better man. ~Benjamin Franklin

We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day. ~Edith Lovejoy Pierce

Stop Hitting The Snooze Button!

If you woke up breathing, congratulations! You have another chance. ~Andrea Boydston

Soooooo...my normal routine is that my alarm clock goes off in the morning and I hit the snooze button at least 4-6 more times before I finally decide to stumble out of bed.

Today I had an AHA moment! The act of hitting the snooze button is me telling the universe...you know what? I'm not ready to wake up and face the world yet...just please give me a little more time. I beg and grovel over and over until I finally cant run from the inescapable reality anymore and I surrender to time. Imagine if when I heard the alarm I jumped out of bed immediately and seized the day. What if I woke up with incredible enthusiasm, energy and a renewed sense of purpose and gratitude that because God woke me up to see another day, I should be appreciative and excited that continue my work that must be done here in the natural. I believe that in so many areas of my life...I am in essence hitting the snooze button. The universe has bought the moment in front of me..but instead, I say I am not ready and delay the inevitable for just a few moments longer.

Why am I so afraid to claim my destiny? It is MY destiny after all...which means it will come again. Try as you might...there is no escaping you. I have decided that I will be happy and grateful for each opportunity that is placed in my path. I will not second guess whether I am worthy of receiving..instead I will trust that if is positive and spiritually aligned with my morals then I will see it to fruition.
I once heard the saying that an optimist jumps out of bed and says "Good Morning God!" while a pessimist instead says "Good God Morning". Even though I consider myself to be a positive person and reinforce it throughout my day, I know now that my act of pressing the snooze button is counterproductive.

I make a commitment to see the best that each day and opportunity has to offer and to accept it into my life. I will consciously attempt things so large that they can only be accomplished if God steps in because after all....
It's in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped. -Anthony Robbins

Whats your learning style??

"Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow." -- Anthony J. D'Angelo

So...I am studying like a madwoman today doing my best to prepare for my new position as a Clinical Account Executive for an industry leading biotech company. I found myself going over the same line over and over and having a hard time retaining some of the information. (For the record...I find the information fascinating but as a person with NO science background other than the the pharmacodynamic cram sessions required of pharmaceutical sales, a lot of the compounds and periodic symbols are a bit foreign) I finally realized that I was doing this all wrong...While I am certainly a visual person...I am very much a tactile/kinestethic learner and learn best by DOING.

I decided to call my technical specialist and I ask if I could accompany him in the field tomorrow. He agreed and I am very excited. (Plus, I may have gotten some points with the new boss who seemed surprised yet pleased that I took the initiative to go above and beyond. His only expectation from me is doing independent home study until January 5).

LESSON: Know when something is not working. Adjust the plan accordingly.

Also, always look for opportunities to go the extra mile. Proactively reaching out to my technical specialist gives us an opportunity to get a headstart of building a mutually productive partnership.

Because I know myself, I know which ways work best for me especially as it pertains to learning new things. I like to jump right in and use my hands. Most of my former bosses would tell you that I became their strongest employee often with the least training or experience because I like to be thrown right into the water and learn right away how to sink or swim.

Take this quiz!!! Discovering your learning style

Tips for your Learning Style

Visual Learners:

  • use visual materials such as pictures, charts, maps, graphs, etc.
  • have a clear view of your teachers when they are speaking so you can see their body language and facial expression
  • use colour to highlight important points in text

  • illustrate your ideas as a picture or brainstorming bubble before writing them down
  • write a story and illustrate it
  • use multi-media (e.g. computers, videos, and filmstrips)
  • study in a quiet place away from verbal disturbances
  • read illustrated books
  • visualize information as a picture to aid memorization

Auditory Learners:

  • participate in class discussions/debates
  • make speeches and presentations
  • use a tape recorder during lectures instead of taking notes
  • read text out aloud
  • create musical jingles to aid memorization
  • create mnemonics to aid memorization
  • discuss your ideas verbally
  • dictate to someone while they write down your thoughts
  • use verbal analogies, and story telling to demonstrate your point

Tactile/Kinesthetic Learners

  • take frequent study breaks
  • move around to learn new things (e.g. read while on an exercise bike, mold a piece of clay to learn a new concept)
  • work at a standing position
  • chew gum while studying
  • use bright colors to highlight reading material
  • dress up your work space with posters
  • if you wish, listen to music while you study
  • skim through reading material to get a rough idea what it is about before settling down to read it in detail.

What Im Reading: The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch

I admit it...I am a serial reader. At any given time I am reading 3 books at once and likely will start another before any one of those gets completed. Luckily, every once in a blue moon the universe will send me a book that completely changes my life and makes it so that I have monogamous relationship with one book that completely captivates and engages me to the point where I cannot sleep until I have absorbed every word and thought divulged in the manuscript. (Rich Dad Poor Dad, Think & Grow Rich, The Secret, Eat Pray Love, Spontaneous Fulfillment of Desire, Seven Spiritual Laws of Success to name a few).

This week The Last Lecture was my conduit to greatness. To attempt to describe this book would hardly do it justice. Professor Randy Pausch found out that he was losing his battle with pancreatic cancer and decided he would complete "The Last Lecture" he had previously committed to at Carnegie Mellon University. He knew he would not have the opportunity to watch his 3 young children grow into adolescence and that their memories of him would be vague at best. He wanted the lecture to serve as a guidepost for his children and be a way he could impart his wisdom and life lessons to aid them in the future. This book is AMAZING!! Obviously, because Randy Pausch was ultimately delivering this message to his children it is incredibly sincere and heartfelt. The lessons are simple and they serve as reminders to us on how we should live our lives day to day.

I couldn't put this book down! I was reading it on the car ride back from Orlando after the holidays well after the sun set with only the light from my cellphone until hubby took pity and muttered something about ruining my eyes and made me put the passenger lights on lol.

Randy delivers clever one liners and then expands upon them. Some of my personal favorites were...

"Brick Walls are not there to keep us out. They give us a chance to show how bad we really want something"

"You can always change your plan--but only if you have one"

"Experience is what you get--when you didn't get what you wanted"

"Dance with the one who brung you"-A reminder about loyalty and appreciation

One of my favorite sentences in the book comes at the conclusion in the lecture where he tells his audience "Its not about how to achieve your dreams. It's about how to lead your life. If you lead your life the right way, the karma will take care of itself. The dreams will come to you"

This line in particular gave me chills because I am a walking testimonial to its truth. A little over a year ago, I thought I was on top of the world. I had money, a beautiful family, a blossoming acting career, a six figure sales career, and had started my entrepreneurial pursuits by opening a bookstore in a local mall. I also had a ego. Not so much arrogance, but a subconscious belief that I was better than others because of my "things" and my so-called status and even worse an all consuming addiction to accumulating more "things" to make myself feel whole. I don't know where I got this idea, in hindsight I will say it was nothing short of the devil. I was not raised privileged and worked very hard for all that I have accomplished. I overcompensated myself for the things I was denied in my youth. With this mentality also came rebellion and invincibility. I truly believed I was untouchable. I could do anything to anyone and not suffer repercussions. I believed I could act as ignorant as I liked and suffer no consequences. I indulged in some things I am not very proud of and lived a reckless life...until it all came crashing down around me.

James 4:6, "God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble."

God found a way to humble me by stripping me of so many of the materials things I held so dear. It was the best thing that could have ever happened to me because now for the first time in life, I am enlightened and awakened. I am not my things. I understand my need to serve and I live a blessed life beyond my ego. For the first time in a long while, I feel connected to a power greater than myself and united with my brothers and sisters of all walks of life. I understand that I am no better, greater, or fortunate. I believe that my new mission is not only one of wealth and prosperity but that I have a shared responsibility to motivate, inspire and educate others to achieve the same. My marriage and family are healthier than ever. The even better part is, the minute I begin to live my life right...it was like a whole 'nother door was opened for me. It was almost as if the universe said..."You thought you were doing it before...well you ain't seen nothin' yet". Similar to what Mr. Pausch said about the karma taking care of itself....

Philippians 2:3, "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves."

Every day is a struggle when you are waging war against the devil and other negative sources. The devil is only concerned with you when he sees you making progress in your life and achieving prosperity. I do my best to "guard my gaze" and protect the information that I intake. I change the channel from ignorant television shows and I only absorb positive information that will help me for the better. Time is finite and cannot be wasted on frivolous things. I also had to leave behind many peers I love who are addicted to drama and do not wish to expand their minds. They are not bad people..just not good for me, at this current stage in my life. I have a belief and expectation that people around me should get on my level...not drag me down to theirs. They say your network is your net worth..and well mine was pulling me down worse than a charge off does your credit score. I am now expanding my circle to other like minded individuals that love living a harmonic life and realize that its not about competition but instead communion. I also am confident enough to befriend others smarter, prettier, and more successful than me because it inspires ME and challenges me to raise my bar.

The lessons from this book will definitely serve me in my quest to be a millionaire and I have no doubt that it will make me a better mother, wife, friend, daughter, business partner and confidante. It made me think about my childhood dreams. I wondered aloud what would I leave to my family as a legacy if I knew my service on this Earth was ending? What would I tell my children?? I hope you enjoy as much as I....
